It’s summertime – perfect time to check your cooling unit to make sure it’s running at its peak performance.  Here’s a list that our HVAC partners use to maintain split system wine cellar cooling units.

Here are a few simple tips to keep your wine cellar cooling system working well for years to come.

During Installation:

  • Carefully select placement of all components. Ensure each item is secure and installed properly.
  • All braising of joints should be done with the appropriate flux and solder combination for dissimilar metals.
  • After braising we suggest a dry nitrogen wash to remove potential contaminates.
  • Drain lines should be planned with an access path in case they ever need to be checked or cleaned in the event of blockage
  • When placing the condensing unit, carefully consider:
    • Access to the wiring
    • Access to evacuate/charge
    • Stability of surface (a “pad” is generally used)
    • Proximity to outdoor fixtures and landscaping
    • Rain gutter run-off
    • Windows
    • Sprinkler systems
    • Shrubs / Vines
    • Trees (leaf shed)

Continuing Maintenance
To be performed annually or as needed.

  • Check drain line for debris.
  • Condensing unit (or enclosure) should be visually checked regularly for debris while the power is off.
  • Remove dust or debris with air or a light touch (washing with hose is not recommended).
  • Fan motors are sealed and do not need additional lubrication.
